The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has called for closer collaboration between the council and plaza owners in Computer Village to improve security, environmental sanitation, revenue administration and the overall business environment within the ICT hub.

Dauda made the call during an interactive session with plaza owners in Computer Village, saying sustained engagement with stakeholders remains essential to addressing challenges confronting the market and promoting its continued growth.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Adeola Ogunlade, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, assuring traders that the local government would continue to work with market stakeholders to resolve issues affecting their businesses.

“Our administration believes in leadership through consultation and collaboration. We will continue to engage stakeholders to find lasting solutions to issues affecting Computer Village and create an environment that supports business growth,” Dauda said.

He assured the traders that the council would address concerns relating to drainage, taxation, security and regulatory compliance, while taking steps to eliminate illegal revenue collection by unauthorised agents.

The chairman also pledged to engage the Lagos State Government on issues requiring state intervention, describing Computer Village as Ikeja’s flagship commercial hub that deserves a cleaner, safer and more technology-driven operating environment.

Dauda urged business owners to fulfil their statutory tax obligations, assuring them that revenue collection under his administration would be transparent, fair and accountable.

He further disclosed plans to deploy technology and accurate data management to strengthen governance, improve traffic management and enhance service delivery within the market.

“We are developing a business plan that will introduce digital payment systems and other innovative solutions in partnership with stakeholders. We also welcome constructive criticism and fresh ideas that will help improve the market,” he added.

Responding on behalf of the plaza owners, Chairman of the Plaza Heads in Computer Village, Mr. Chukwuka Ekekwe, commended the initiative, describing the meeting as a positive step towards strengthening the relationship between the local government and the business community.

Ekekwe urged the council to sustain regular consultations with market leaders and prioritise improved security, public toilet facilities, street lighting and the introduction of a fully digital revenue collection system that reflects Computer Village’s status as West Africa’s leading ICT market.

He expressed optimism that closer collaboration between the council and stakeholders would enhance the market’s competitiveness and improve the overall business experience for traders and visitors alike.
