Troops of the Joint Task Force North West have arrested three suspected terrorist logistics couriers and rescued 14 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Danja said troops of Sector 2 intercepted the three suspects on September 24 while they were travelling on a motorcycle in Faskari Local Government Area.
According to him, preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects were conveying N2.7 million, suspected to be ransom money, along with three mobile phones for onward transfer to a suspected terrorist kingpin through intermediaries in the area.
He said the suspects and the recovered items had been taken into military custody for further investigation.
In a separate operation on September 25, Danja said troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists in the area, established an ambush position and engaged the suspected terrorists.
He said the suspects fled the area, adding that troops subsequently recovered one AK-47 rifle, 30 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle during exploitation of the area.
In a related development on the same day, Danja said troops conducting a routine patrol intercepted and rescued 14 kidnapped victims comprising 12 males and two females.
He said preliminary investigation indicated that the victims had earlier been abducted from Anguwan Miko and Tafoki villages in Faskari Local Government Area.
According to him, the victims were abandoned by the suspected terrorists after they sighted the advancing troops.
The rescued victims were subsequently handed over to the Faskari Local Government authorities for further necessary action.
Danja said the operations underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting the lives and property of citizens, rescuing persons held in terrorist captivity and denying terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
He commended the troops for their vigilance, courage and prompt response, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
