Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has assured the people of the state that his second term in office will deliver greater progress and impact than his first.
The governor made the pledge on Tuesday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Awka, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the INEC Supervising National Commissioner for the Anambra governorship election and Chairman, Tenders Board Committee, Dr. Ken Ikeagu.
Soludo described the November 8, 2025 governorship election as free, fair, and credible, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring transparency in the process.
“I want to assure you that with my deputy and our team, we are going to ensure that Anambra continues to shine,” Soludo said. “God has been with us, and God is still with us. I promise to work even harder in my second term than I did in my first, so that at the end of eight years, Anambra will look back with pride that the confidence reposed in me was not in vain.”
He called on his fellow contestants to join hands with him to advance the state, emphasizing that governance is a collective effort. “Let’s move Anambra forward and make it a destination hub in Nigeria,” he added, dedicating his victory to God and the people.
The governor hailed the “unprecedented” voter turnout, noting that nearly 600,000 residents participated in the election. He also praised INEC officials and security agencies for maintaining order and ensuring that the will of the people prevailed.
Highlighting the scale of his victory, Soludo said: “For the first time in the history of Anambra State, a candidate got 73% of the total votes cast, winning 98% of all wards and 99% of all polling units. There are local governments where we did not lose even one polling unit.”
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, INEC, and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for their support, reiterating his commitment to inclusive and peaceful governance.
Presenting the Certificate of Return, Dr. Ikeagu said the issuance was in compliance with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates INEC to issue certificates within 14 days to duly elected candidates.
According to official results released by INEC, Soludo polled 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 99,445 votes, while Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
