A major rift has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State following the resignation of former SSG Moshood Adeoti from the party and the Omoluabi Progressives, amid growing disagreements over the party’s 2026 governorship ticket.
The exit, confirmed in a letter dated November 30, 2025, sees Adeoti break ranks with former governor Rauf Aregbesola, amid rumours that the ADC intends to award its governorship ticket to ex-Assembly Speaker Najeem Salam.
“I, Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti, the Deputy Leader of Omoluabi Progressives in Osun State, hereby tender this letter of withdrawal from the group, which I co-founded with other progressive-minded individuals across the state,” Adeoti stated in the letter, describing the move as “difficult but necessary.”
Adeoti added that he would no longer participate in any activities of the group, citing pressure from family members to take a short break from politics.
“My decision to withdraw was never an easy one, especially each time I looked back and considered all my investments into ensuring the survival of the group throughout its turbulent period from its inception to date,” he wrote.
He also extended his gratitude to fellow progressives, wishing the current leadership success in future endeavours.
The political tensions stem from ADC leadership indications that Salam, like Adeoti, hails from Osun West, and has emerged as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election. Adeoti’s exit, alongside discontent from Senator Oriolowo, signals potential realignments in the state’s political landscape ahead of the polls.
The development is the latest in a series of strategic moves by politicians in Osun as parties prepare for a competitive 2026 governorship race.
