The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a suspected insider-led vehicle theft, arresting a security guard and two accomplices over the theft of a Lexus RX 300 SUV.

‎The arrest, according to the command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, was carried out by operatives of the Ibafo Division on 18th April 2026 at about 1100hrs, following “a swift response to a distress call and actionable intelligence,” which led to the tracking of the suspects to a hideout within the Ibafo axis.

‎Recovered from the suspects was “an ash-coloured Lexus RX 300 SUV believed to have been stolen from Lagos and moved to Ogun State for disposal.” Babaseyi said.

‎The suspects, identified as Obada Ezekiel (27), Emmanuel Timothy (25), and Yaya Yakubu (27), were apprehended in possession of the stolen vehicle.

‎The spokesman said that preliminary investigations revealed that “the principal suspect, a private security guard attached to the vehicle, allegedly conspired with the other two suspects to facilitate the theft and relocation of the vehicle.”

‎The Command described the case as “a clear example of insider compromise aiding criminal activity,” noting that “the swift recovery of the vehicle underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency vigilance.”

‎“All suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution,” the statement said.

‎Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt and professional conduct.

‎“The operatives demonstrated commendable efficiency and professionalism in responding to the distress call and acting on credible intelligence, leading to the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen vehicle,” he said.

‎He further noted that “the Command remains resolute in its determination to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators of crime to justice, regardless of their methods or level of involvement.”

‎The Commissioner also appreciated members of the public, stating that “timely and useful information from citizens continues to play a critical role in the fight against crime.”

‎“The Command encourages residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities, as community partnership is essential to effective policing,” he added.
