The national leadership of the Accord Party has cleared Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to contest its gubernatorial primary, less than 24 hours after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke, who moved to the Accord Party on Tuesday evening alongside his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and key aides, was screened by the party’s gubernatorial screening committee ahead of Wednesday’s primary.
Elder Ibe Thankgod, Chairman of the Accord Party Screening Committee, confirmed in a statement that Governor Adeleke met all stipulated requirements and has been cleared as the party’s sole aspirant for the governorship ticket. He added that all documentation with relevant authorities has been completed, and the committee has issued Adeleke a certificate of clearance, describing him as a “worthy gubernatorial aspirant.”
In his remarks, Adeleke thanked the committee for what he described as a seamless process, declaring his readiness for both the primary and the 2026 general election.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” he said.
The governor officially unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform in the presence of national officers, explaining on his X handle that he intends to complete his ongoing governance agenda under the party’s banner.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” Adeleke stated. He added that he has been impressed by the philosophy of the party, noting that “the primary essence of a government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”
He welcomed the national leadership of the Accord Party to Osun State, affirming unity and shared purpose for the advancement of the state and the country.
