Nollywood actress and political appointee, Eniola Badmus, has initiated legal action against an X (formerly Twitter) user over allegations that she operates a prostitution ring involving young women, film executives and Nigerian politicians.
Badmus, who currently serves as Special Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, described the allegation as “false, reckless and malicious,” warning that the matter would be pursued through appropriate legal channels.
The controversy began after an X user, identified as @Femzydr1, published a post accusing the actress of acting as an intermediary between young women and influential figures in Nollywood and politics.
In the now-viral post, the user alleged: “Popular Yoruba Actress Eniola Badmus is reportedly a private pimp in Nigeria and in the movie industry, linking young girls up with top directors, movie executives, and Nigerian politicians.
“She surely gained entry into the political scene through this network, and many young girls have been exploited & used for different purposes by politicians through her connections.”
Responding via her verified X account, Badmus dismissed the claim as baseless and defamatory.
“This is the attention you’ve been craving for, so let’s get into it,” she wrote. “This is a false accusation and the authorities will step in. Let it be known that we do not forgive in this zone.”
The actress’ reaction signals a firm legal stance, particularly given her history of pursuing similar allegations through the courts.
In 2023, a TikTok user, Nwakaego Okoye, was arrested and prosecuted after posting a viral video describing Badmus as a “professional pimp” who allegedly connected young women, particularly those who had undergone cosmetic surgery, to high-ranking politicians.
The matter was heard before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The defendant was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, with an option of a N150,000 fine in lieu of custodial sentence.
Observers note that the previous case underscores Badmus’ readiness to pursue defamation claims to a judicial conclusion.
In the current instance, the X user has since issued a public apology, retracting his earlier statements.
“I sincerely apologize to Ms. Eniola Badmus, her family, friends, fans, and everyone affected by my recent tweet,” the user wrote. “The post accusing her of exploitation, linking young girls to movie and political figures, and pimping was wrong, irresponsible, and made without evidence. I deeply regret spreading such damaging and false information.”
There has been no official confirmation on whether the apology will halt the impending legal process. However, Badmus’ initial response suggests she may proceed in order to establish what she describes as accountability for defamatory online content.
