Five passengers were rescued and taken for medical attention after a 40-foot HOWO truck rammed into two commercial buses at Berger Bus Stop, inward Kara Bridge, causing traffic congestion that extended to Otedola Bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a statement on Tuesday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Taofiq Adebayo, said the collision involved an interstate commercial Mazda bus and a Toyota Hiace bus, both conveying passengers.
According to him, the truck was travelling out of Lagos when it collided with the two buses, leaving several occupants injured.
Aebayo said LASTMA operatives stationed around the Ojodu–Berger axis responded to the incident and rescued five seriously injured passengers, comprising three females and two males, including a driver.
The injured passengers, he stated, were transported by motorists, accompanied by LASTMA officials, to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at Toll Gate for medical assessment and treatment.
He added that policemen from Isheri division also supported the rescue efforts.
The spokesman said that the collision caused a traffic backlog that stretched to Otedola Bridge. LASTMA officials managed traffic along the affected corridor while evacuating the vehicles from the carriageway to prevent further accidents and restore the free flow of traffic.
Adebayo said that vehicles involved in the collision, including the truck, were subsequently handed over to the police for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said, “Operators of heavy-duty vehicles must ensure that their trucks are properly maintained and roadworthy before embarking on any journey. They must also observe speed limits and other traffic regulations to reduce the risk of road crashes.
“Motorists should remain vigilant, avoid reckless driving and comply with traffic directives issued by LASTMA officials, especially along busy highways.”
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to responding to road emergencies, protecting lives and managing traffic across Lagos State.
LASTMA also urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and observe road safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.
