President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following allegations recently levelled against him.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation on Monday in a letter addressed to the President, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation.
In his letter, the former Minister stated that he had become a target of political blackmail and opted to step aside in order not to allow distractions to affect the administration’s focus on national development.
“I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this administration’s vision of a technologically advanced and innovative Nigeria,” Nnaji was quoted as saying.
“However, recent orchestrated attacks by political opponents have made it imperative for me to step aside and clear my name.
”Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu has accepted Nnaji’s resignation and commended his service to the nation.
“President Tinubu thanks Mr. Geoffrey Uche Nnaji for his service to the country and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” Onanuga stated.
