In a decisive step toward empowering young people through education, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has presented free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to indigent students across Ikeja.
The initiative, rolled out under the Akeem Dauda Educational Support Programme, is designed to remove financial barriers for brilliant but less privileged students, ensuring that no child is denied educational opportunities due to economic challenges.
Dauda stressed that education remains the most powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty. “This gesture is one of many deliberate interventions my administration has lined up to give Ikeja youths a strong foundation to compete globally,” he said.
Since assuming office, Chairman Dauda has consistently prioritized youth development. His administration recently launched a Holiday Job Programme that engaged over 250 youths during the long vacation, an International Youth Day Engagement on leadership and civic responsibility, and is preparing to unveil the Skill-Up Ikeja Project, which will equip young people with digital and vocational skills.
He further reassured residents of his commitment to the Ikeja Youth Master Plan, a comprehensive roadmap for preparing young people for opportunities locally and internationally.
Beyond the free GCE forms, beneficiaries will enjoy free tutorial classes, while the best-performing candidates will be awarded scholarships.
The event was attended by the Vice Chairman of Ikeja LG, Hon. Abisola Omisore (Omituntun), the six councillors led by Hon. Rasheed Adisa Ogunseye, and council officials led by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko.
