The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a revised minimum score requirement for university admissions in Nigeria.
JAMB, during its 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the board set the baseline UTME scores as follows:•
150 for university entry•
140 for colleges of nursing sciences•
100 for polytechnics, colleges of education, and colleges of agriculture
The announcement, confirmed via JAMB’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, reflects consensus among tertiary institution leaders—including vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts—present at the Abuja meeting.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emphasised that these figures serve as minimum standards, allowing individual institutions the discretion to impose higher thresholds based on their specific admission criteria.
The new guidelines aim to streamline the admissions process, ensure fairness, and raise the bar for academic quality at the tertiary level.
With these benchmarks now set, the 2025/2026 admission cycle is expected to commence promptly under the updated regulations.
