First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly condemned the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Receiving the Wives of Service Chiefs at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, the First Lady requested a minute of silence in honour of the victims and the late Vice Principal of the school, who was killed during the attack.
The visiting delegation included Mrs. Sefiyan Shuaibu (Army), Mrs. Ngozi Aneke (Air Force), Mrs. Aishatu Abass (Navy), and Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun (Police), representing their respective officers’ wives associations.
Senator Tinubu commended the new service chiefs for their efforts in enhancing national security and praised their spouses for the support they offer, including ongoing community welfare initiatives across the country.
She urged the wives of the service chiefs to strengthen collaboration with her office, recalling the productive partnership she previously enjoyed with former service chiefs’ spouses, particularly in programmes supporting widows and military veterans.
The First Lady also acknowledged the difficult circumstances facing security personnel in Kebbi State and applauded their courage and commitment in the face of persistent threats.
Highlighting forthcoming humanitarian programmes, Senator Tinubu announced that her NGO, the Renewed Hope Initiative, has earmarked ₦100 million to support vulnerable groups during the festive season. She outlined planned interventions, including financial assistance for persons with disabilities on December 3 and support for the elderly on December 16.
She encouraged the visiting wives to extend similar empowerment efforts within their associations to promote national cohesion and community development.
Responding, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, who led the delegation, thanked the First Lady for her leadership and consistent support. She highlighted ongoing initiatives by the associations, including widows’ empowerment, skills acquisition programmes, scholarships, and annual assistance to senior citizens.
The group pledged to strengthen collaboration with the First Lady’s office and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, community welfare, and national peace.
