The Lagos State Government has released a detailed traffic diversion plan ahead of scheduled repair works on the Maryland Independence Bridge.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said on Thursday that the partial closure is aimed at minimising travel delays during the maintenance period.
According to Osiyemi, the repairs will run nightly from Saturday, August 16 to Tuesday, August 19, 2025, between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Motorists heading towards Oshodi, Ojuelegba, Stadium, and Lagos will be diverted at Maria Lodge in Maryland onto the Maryland Bridge to connect Idiroko inwards Anthony, as the main carriageway will remain closed to traffic during these hours.
However, vehicles travelling from Lagos, Stadium, and Anthony towards Ketu and Ikorodu will not be affected. The commissioner urged road users to cooperate with traffic officers who will be deployed to ensure a smooth flow of movement.
He stressed that the temporary diversion is in the overall interest of Lagos residents and is part of the state’s commitment to maintaining safe and efficient road infrastructure.
