The Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has commenced the administrative and medical screening of intending pilgrims to Israel and Jordan as preparations intensify for the forthcoming pilgrimage exercise.
In a statement by Ebunoluwa Olagoke, Director of the Public Affairs Unit of the Board, the exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the National Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) and other relevant government agencies to ensure that all pilgrims meet required travel and health standards.
According to the Board Secretary, Okudero Omoniyi, the screening involves detailed verification of travel documents and comprehensive medical assessments aimed at determining the physical and medical fitness of participants.
He explained that the process would also enlighten pilgrims on expected conduct during the journey, while equipping the medical team with adequate medication and resources to cater to health needs throughout the exercise.
Omoniyi urged intending pilgrims to strictly adhere to guidelines and comply with the laws of the host countries, stressing that they would be representing both Lagos State and Nigeria.
In his remarks, Reverend Bukola Adeleke, Special Adviser to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters, appreciated the pilgrims for trusting the Lagos State Government’s pilgrimage services. He emphasised the importance of praying for Nigeria’s leadership, especially in a period marked by security and economic challenges.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring a safe, well-coordinated and abscondment-free pilgrimage. He noted that robust security and monitoring measures had been put in place to protect Nigerian pilgrims in Israel and Jordan.
Adegbite commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for pilgrimage programmes in Nigeria and urged intending pilgrims to use the opportunity to pray for the peace and progress of the nation.
