The Lagos State Government has commenced the removal of illegal structures along the Jakande Coastal Road as part of efforts to restore order, ease traffic congestion and address environmental nuisances along the corridor.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this via his official social media handle, stating that the operation was being carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
According to the Commissioner, the affected structures were erected in violation of the road’s right of way, obstructing free movement of vehicles and pedestrians while contributing to traffic gridlock and environmental degradation in the area.
He noted that the enforcement exercise forms part of the State Government’s broader commitment to ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment for residents and road users.
Wahab emphasised that the operation was not a one-off exercise, but a sustained intervention aimed at maintaining sanity across major roads in the state.
In a follow-up update shared on Thursday, December 18, the Commissioner said operatives of KAI had continued the clearing of illegal structures along Jakande Road, reinforcing the government’s resolve to clamp down on environmental infractions.
He warned that the state would continue to take decisive action against all forms of environmental violations, urging residents and business operators to comply with environmental laws and respect public infrastructure.
