The Lagos State Government has disbursed a total of ₦498.13 million as insurance benefits to 163 families of deceased Local Government and Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) staff, reaffirming its commitment to workers’ welfare beyond active service.

The disbursement took place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, as part of the welfare policy of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr Bolaji Kayode Robert, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa, described the exercise as a clear demonstration of the State Government’s resolve to honour its obligations to its workforce, even in death.

Robert urged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds responsibly, stressing that the true way to honour their departed loved ones is by investing the benefits in ventures that would sustain their families and preserve the legacies of the deceased.

He also commended LASACO Assurance PLC and Haggai Insurance Brokers for their consistency and professionalism, describing them as dependable partners in the State’s welfare delivery framework. The commissioner reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to staff welfare, assuring that families of deceased workers would continue to receive all benefits duly earned by their loved ones.

Representing the Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr Hakeem Shittu, Mrs Ojo Bolawaye expressed condolences to the bereaved families, cautioning that the insurance benefits were not meant for celebration but for purposeful use, particularly in securing the future of the deceased workers’ children.

In his goodwill message, the Managing Director of LASACO Assurance PLC, Mr Ademise Shobo, represented by Mr Muyiwa Anwoju, disclosed that over ₦4.5 billion had been paid as insurance benefits to families of deceased Local Government and SUBEB staff since the beginning of 2025, placing Lagos State ahead of others in consistency and accountability.

Shobo advised beneficiaries to explore credible, government-approved investment options to ensure long-term value for the funds received.

Similarly, the Managing Director of Haggai Insurance Brokers, Mr Olusegun Amure, applauded the State Government’s dedication to staff welfare and encouraged beneficiaries to apply the funds judiciously.

The event was attended by top government officials, as well as representatives of LASACO Assurance PLC and Haggai Insurance Brokers.
