The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the planned relocation of the Computer Village, Ikeja, to the purpose-built ICT and Business Park at Katangowa, Agbado Oke-Odo, assuring traders of a transparent and inclusive process.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement held at Otigba Street, Ikeja, on Monday, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, said the forum was convened at the directive of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to ensure beneficiaries play an active role in the relocation exercise.
“In line with Mr. Governor’s directive, and to demonstrate the openness and transparency of the Lagos State Government, we have brought this meeting to you in your market for the first time since the commencement of the exercise some fifteen years ago,” Oki said.
He explained that the administration is expediting action on the construction of the ultramodern ICT and Business Park, which will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including hotels, a banking hall, recreation centres, car parks, a fire station, police post, and access roads.
According to him, relocating the ICT market from Ikeja—originally a residential hub now overstretched by unplanned business growth—will create a win-win situation for both government and traders, enhancing business optimisation and providing a more serene environment.
He urged traders to embrace the initiative, cooperate with government, and desist from obstructing roads, setbacks, and drainage channels with their wares, while assuring that the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to sustainable, people-centred urban development.
Director of Urban Development, Tpl. Olalekan Odujebe, alongside Tpl. Olayinka Bello, made a presentation highlighting the benefits of the relocation exercise.
In her remarks, the Iyaloja of the market, Mrs. Abisola Azeez, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the project, noting that the relocation, when completed, would further boost the market’s potential and provide a conducive environment for both traders and customers.
Also present at the meeting were the General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Tpl. Oladimeji Animashaun; Coordinating Director, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Builder Florence Gbaye; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Segun Williams; and executive members of the Computer Village Market Association.
