The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing students of Excel College, Ejigbo, engaging in smoking and consumption of alcohol within a dormitory.
Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, described the incident as “disturbing and totally unacceptable,” stressing that it goes against the values and standards expected within the state’s education system.
According to him, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has dispatched a monitoring and investigation team to authenticate the video, identify the students involved, and assess the level of institutional oversight.“
All relevant facts are being gathered, and any school found culpable will face sanctions in line with Lagos State’s education policies and regulations,” Alli-Balogun stated.
He assured the public that the state government remains committed to safeguarding the safety, discipline, and moral well-being of learners across schools.
“Our priority is to ensure that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to the academic and moral growth of every learner,” the Commissioner said.
