In a bold move to strengthen the quality of education across Lagos State, the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has formally inducted 1,500 newly recruited post-primary school teachers through a comprehensive three-day orientation programme themed “Leading Learning in a Fast-Evolving World.”
The induction, which began on Wednesday at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ikeja, is being held simultaneously at three designated centres.
In a statement by the Director, Public Affairs of the agency, the exercise aimed “aims to equip new educators with the tools, ethics, and mindset necessary to thrive in today’s rapidly changing educational landscape.
”Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Establishment, Training, Pensions and Public Service, Hon. Oladele Ajayi, highlighted the strategic significance of the programme in achieving Lagos State’s educational reforms.
“This programme is designed to re-orient and empower you with 21st-century teaching skills. Your role as educators goes beyond the classroom — you are the architects of future generations. You must embrace technology, pursue continuous learning, and drive excellence in every aspect of your work,” Ajayi told the inductees.
He added that with the right mindset and tools, the new teachers would become transformational figures in the state’s education system.
Also addressing the participants, TESCOM Chairman, Victoria Peregrino, described the teaching profession as one of the most crucial pillars of national development.“You are not just teachers — you are builders of the nation. What you impart to students today will shape the values, vision, and direction of society tomorrow,” she said.
“This programme is designed to ground you in the ethics, ethos, and demands of the profession in a globalised world. Keep learning, keep growing — our students depend on it.”
Peregrino also expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing teacher recruitment and development under the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda, noting that quality education remains central to the state’s development goals.
In her remarks, TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, stressed that the induction is not just a formality but a strategic platform to prepare teachers for the evolving realities of school management and student development.
“This exercise marks the beginning of your journey as educators and mentors. You are being prepared to lead classrooms, inspire change, and support the implementation of Lagos State’s educational vision. Take this responsibility seriously,” she said.
The induction was organized in partnership with Nurture House Consulting, reflecting TESCOM’s commitment to integrating expert insights into teacher development.With 1,500 new teachers on boarded, Lagos reaffirms its dedication to raising a competent and dynamic teaching workforce that can deliver globally competitive education to students across the state.
