The Lagos State Government has arrested three individuals for illegally dumping waste at an unauthorised location in the Ayobo area of the state.
The offenders, identified as 65-year-old Awosunle Akinola, 47-year-old Adepeju Seun, and Solamipe Akanwo, were apprehended during an overnight enforcement operation carried out by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrest on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.
“The LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Teamapprehended three individuals during an overnight operation for illegally disposing of waste at an unauthorised location in the Ayobo area of Lagos,” Wahab stated.
He added that the suspects have been transferred to the LAWMA Legal Department at the Oshodi Taskforce Office for prosecution.
“All identified black spots in the area have been effectively minimised,” the commissioner noted, stressing that the government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws across the state.
The operation, which concluded in the early hours of November 11, 2025, is part of the state’s ongoing campaign to maintain a clean, safe, and sustainable environment while discouraging indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Wahab reiterated that the state will continue to enforce strict penalties against violators of environmental regulations, warning residents to use only designated waste collection points and engage licensed waste operators.
