Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has assured members of the Nigerian Armed Forces of his administration’s unwavering support in their efforts to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and protect lives and property across the country.
The Governor gave the assurance on Thursday during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths Ceremony to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes, noting that their sacrifices would never be forgotten by the government and people of Nigeria.
According to him, members of the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to risk their lives daily to ensure the safety of citizens and the protection of national assets, stressing the need for both the Federal and State Governments to reciprocate through sustained welfare and institutional support.
“Today, we are marking the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day to honour and encourage our military officers, to remember our fallen heroes, and to pray for their souls,” the Governor said.
“This is to let them know that their sacrifices have not been in vain, that the nation stands firmly behind them, and that we will continue to do everything necessary to support them.”
Sanwo-Olu further emphasised that the Lagos State Government remains committed to providing assistance to the widows and dependants of fallen heroes, adding that while some of the support measures may not always be visible, the government remains steadfast in ensuring that military personnel are recognised, motivated, and valued for their service.
In his remarks, the Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support to the Armed Forces, particularly in the area of welfare for widows of fallen heroes.
DCG Olawale reaffirmed the Nigerian Legion’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of military veterans and the dependants of deceased service members, noting that the Legion remains a statutory organisation established to cater for the needs of veterans and the families they left behind.
