The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has hosted a high-powered delegation from the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA) on a two-day operational working visit to its headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.
The delegation, led by Major General Garba Yahaya Rimi (Rtd), Director General and Chief Executive Officer of KASSAROTA, visited to understudy LASTMA’s operational structure, administrative framework, and enforcement strategies that have made it a model traffic management agency in Nigeria and across Africa.
The visitors were warmly received by the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, alongside members of the agency’s management team.
In his remarks, Bakare-Oki expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a validation of LASTMA’s growing reputation as a leading traffic management institution in the country.
“The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, remains committed to building a sustainable, technology-driven, and people-focused traffic management system dedicated to ensuring seamless mobility, orderliness, and safety across the state,”
he said.
According to him, LASTMA’s success is driven by continuous capacity building, inter-agency collaboration, public engagement, and intelligent traffic management technologies, all anchored on professionalism, discipline, and accountability.
Responding, Major General Rimi (Rtd) commended LASTMA’s visionary leadership and operational excellence, noting that the insights from the visit would help enhance KASSAROTA’s capacity to improve traffic regulation and administration in Katsina State.
He also thanked LASTMA management for their warm reception and openness, while advocating for sustained collaboration and knowledge sharing between both institutions to promote road safety and mobility nationwide.
During the visit, the Katsina delegation toured LASTMA’s Digital Complaint Centre, the Department of Planning, Research and Statistics, and observed the agency’s use of Traffic Management Systems (TMS) and drone surveillance equipment for real-time monitoring.
The tour also featured technical briefings, experience-sharing sessions, and discussions on traffic data analytics, public enlightenment, and enforcement models designed to deepen the visitors’ operational understanding.
Speaking on the collaboration, Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA, noted that such partnerships demonstrate the agency’s role as a benchmark institution for modern traffic management in Nigeria.
“LASTMA continues to serve as a beacon of operational excellence, providing practical models that other states can adapt in improving urban traffic control and management,” Adebayo said.
