All academic and administrative activities at Lagos State University (LASU) have been brought to a standstill following the declaration of an indefinite strike by the institution’s staff unions.
The industrial action, which commenced on Thursday, July 31, 2025, was jointly declared by the university’s Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the unions said they were compelled to take the step after several unresolved issues with the university management.
The letter, jointly signed by the chairpersons and secretaries of the four unions, instructed members across all LASU campuses—including the main campus, the College of Medicine (LASUCOM) in Ikeja, and the Epe campus—to immediately down tools and vacate their duty posts.
The unions emphasized that the strike would continue until all their demands are fully addressed by the university authorities.
They also expressed appreciation for the management’s previous cooperation and appealed for understanding.This development comes at a critical time, just days before the scheduled commencement of second-semester examinations for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The strike has effectively brought all operations within the university to a complete halt.
