The Ogun State Government has secured a major foreign investment commitment from CCETC, a leading Chinese energy and industrial conglomerate, which has expressed readiness to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in the state.

This development follows the recent investment drive of Governor Dapo Abiodun to China, where he led a high-powered economic delegation on a two-week engagement with key investors across several sectors including energy, manufacturing, and technology.

During a follow-up meeting with the Governor at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, the Chairman of CCETC, Mr. Guo Xianda, pledged the company’s readiness to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, free of charge, to boost industrial activities and accelerate economic growth in the corridor.

Xianda, whose company is headquartered in Jiangsu, China, disclosed that CCETC currently operates over 250MW of power facilities in Nigeria and manages a distribution capacity exceeding 5,000MW across Africa.

He added that the group’s interest in Ogun State encompasses power generation and distribution, a dedicated transmission network, and the creation of an industrial park that would attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state.

Abiodun, in his remarks, lauded the company for its commitment to supporting Ogun’s industrial development agenda, noting that the partnership aligns with the state’s strategic vision of ensuring reliable energy infrastructure for investors.

“The company will strategically focus on three fundamental areas of intervention — strengthening power generation and distribution within the state, investing in a dedicated state transmission network, and establishing an industrial park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers while integrating power projects,” Abiodun stated.

According to the Governor, the state government and CCETC have agreed to a collaborative framework involving funding, technical capacity, and fast-tracked implementation of key energy projects to support Ogun’s rapidly growing industrial base.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun has scheduled an inspection tour with the CCETC team to ongoing energy infrastructure projects handled by Sahara and Powergen, aimed at ensuring efficient and reliable power supply across the state.
