Ogun State has secured a fresh $250 million investment in its agricultural sector, with Pure Dairy Herds Limited unveiling plans to establish one of Nigeria’s largest dairy farms in the Ogun West Senatorial District.

The project, expected to significantly boost local milk production and strengthen the country’s agricultural value chain, was announced on Tuesday after the company’s representatives met with Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, a representative of the company, Mr. Farouk Gumel, said the investment underscores growing investor confidence in Ogun State and its economic development agenda.

Gumel disclosed that the company, in partnership with international dairy experts, is developing a world-class dairy production facility designed to improve local milk output, create employment opportunities and contribute to Nigeria’s food security objectives.

According to him, the company has already completed the acquisition of land for the project, clearing the way for construction and other development activities to commence.

He explained that Ogun State was selected after a careful assessment of investment opportunities across the country, citing its business-friendly environment, supportive government policies and expanding infrastructure network.

“Ogun is the best. We already have a few operations in Ogun State, and this project is a testament to how well we have been received and treated,” Gumel said.

He particularly highlighted ongoing infrastructure development in Ogun West as a major factor that influenced the company’s decision to site the project in the area.

“We are fortunate to have Ogun State as our host, and we are particularly excited about moving into Ogun West, which holds great promise, especially with the critical infrastructure projects taking place in the area,” he stated.

The company executive revealed that the initial phase of the project would attract an investment of about $250 million, with plans for further expansion as operations grow.

“For now, we are looking at an initial investment of $250 million, but as we continue to expand, that figure is expected to increase,” he added.

Gumel also disclosed that preparations were in top gear for the groundbreaking ceremony, which is expected to take place within the next two to three weeks.

The proposed dairy farm is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate economic activities in Ogun West and support efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported dairy products.

The investment further strengthens Ogun State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations, particularly in agriculture, manufacturing and industrial development, sectors that have witnessed significant growth under the current administration.

Industry analysts say the project could play a crucial role in enhancing local dairy production, promoting livestock development and deepening value addition within Nigeria’s agricultural sector, while providing new economic opportunities for host communities and surrounding areas.
