The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday returned its chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, for another four-year term at a well-attended state congress held in the state capital.
Ojelabi and other members of the State Executive Committee emerged through a consensus arrangement at the congress convened at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium. Delegates drawn from the 376 wards across Lagos State were present at the exercise.
Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, presented the consensus list of nominees to the delegates, after which the slate was affirmed through a voice vote.
Other executives elected at the congress include Moshood Olanrewaju as Deputy Chairman; Adeola Jokomba as Secretary; Azizat Mariam as Assistant Secretary; Seye Oladejo as Publicity Secretary; Babajide Sunday as Vice Chairman; Shola Eletu as Woman Leader; and Ayodele Adewale as Organising Secretary.
The congress attracted prominent party leaders and top government functionaries, including Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa; Leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Tajudeen Olusi; and Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
Also in attendance were former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; governorship aspirant, Olajide Adediran; and former Senator, Ganiyu Solomon, among other party stalwarts.
The seamless affirmation of the consensus list was widely seen by party faithful as a demonstration of unity within the Lagos APC, as the leadership prepares for upcoming political engagements in the state.
