The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 67 pharmaceutical premises across Lagos State for various regulatory infractions, including illegal operations, non-registration, and poor compliance with professional standards.
The enforcement exercise, carried out between June 16 and 17, 2025, targeted unregistered pharmacies, patent medicine shops, and other medicine outlets in several parts of the state, including Mushin, Oshodi, Bariga, Shomolu, Gbagada, and Satellite Town.
According to the PCN, the affected outlets comprised 48 illegal medicine shops, 17 pharmacies, and 2 patent medicine stores found to be operating in violation of the law.
Their offenses included operating without registration, failure to renew licenses, unauthorized sale of controlled medicines, improper drug storage, and absence of professional supervision.
The Council warned that such practices pose serious public health risks, including self-medication, antimicrobial resistance, treatment failures, and avoidable deaths.
Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding public health, the PCN urged all pharmaceutical operators to regularize their operations, ensure proper registration, employ qualified pharmacists, and comply fully with regulatory standards.
The enforcement exercise was conducted in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
