Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old suspected armed criminal, identified as Buba Garba, in Tungar Gwani village, Illo District of Bagudo Local Government Area.
The suspect, who hails from Takalafiya village in Suru Local Government Area, was apprehended on November 9, 2025, following a joint operation by policemen and local vigilantes led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Illo Division.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the arrest followed credible intelligence indicating the suspect’s involvement in criminal activities in the area.
During the operation, Garba allegedly attacked a member of the local vigilante group with a knife, stabbing him on the buttocks and left hand in an attempt to resist arrest. The injured vigilante was rushed to a medical facility, where he is reportedly responding to treatment.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one locally made gun (known as Wagila), one locally fabricated pistol, and four cartridges.
Commending the team for their swift and coordinated response, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, lauded the DPO and his men for their professionalism and synergy with the local vigilantes. He urged them to sustain such collaboration to effectively combat crime across the state.
The Commissioner also directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation, including efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal syndicate.
While reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, CP Sani appealed to residents to continue providing the police and other security agencies with accurate and timely information to aid crime prevention and control.
