The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have set up a joint Ad-hoc Committee to commence the recruitment of 30,000 police personnel, in line with the presidential directive to increase the strength of the Force.

The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday at the PSC Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, by the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), represented by DIG (Bar) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd).

In a statement made public and signed by Njoku Kalu, on behalf of the Chairman of the Nigeria Police Service Commission, said the committee will work to ensure a transparent and efficient recruitment process.

He noted that the collaboration between…
LAGESC Busts Oil Bunkering Syndicate, Arrests 27

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has shut down an illegal oil bunkering site and arrested 27 suspects found with fake naira notes during an enforcement operation at The Rock Drive, Lekki Phase 1.

The Corps Marshal, Major Olatunbosun Cole (rtd), disclosed this at the Agency’s headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi.

According to Lukman Ajayi, Head of the Public and Advocacy Unit of LAGESC, the operation followed intelligence reports indicating that an unlicensed depot in the area was being used for storage, adulteration, and distribution of petroleum products.

“We discovered how the activities of the illegal depot were affecting the environment and posing risks to public health and safety while providing cover for miscreants who used fake naira notes to transact with unsuspecting residents,” Ajayi said.

He explained that operatives of the Agency’s special squad stormed the area and uncovered makeshift structures, drums, and jerry cans allegedly filled with adulterated diesel.

He noted that such activities risk fire outbreaks, soil contamination, and other dangers to residents and businesses in the vicinity.

Ajayi added that the Agency dismantled all illegal supply connections discovered within the facility and secured the premises. “During the operation, 27 individuals operating within the compound and transacting with fake naira notes were arrested,” he said.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to curbing environmental violations through sustained monitoring and enforcement to maintain a safe and habitable Lagos, in line with the THEMES+ agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He also urged residents to prioritise the use of pedestrian bridges across the state to prevent avoidable accidents involving speeding vehicles.
