RCCG Rejects Political Bias Claims, Defends Adeboye’s Public Stance

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Tuesday launched a robust defence of its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, dismissing a series of circulating claims about the cleric as false and misleading while urging the public and media practitioners to verify information through the church’s official channels before publication.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Tuesday, the church said it could no longer remain silent while inaccurate claims and misrepresentations about Pastor Adeboye and RCCG continue to circulate in the public space.

“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!!” the statement declared.

According to the church, Pastor Adeboye and RCCG have for years been subjected to “false narratives, deliberate misrepresentations, and misleading commentaries driven by personal interests and agenda setting.”

RCCG emphasized that only its designated communication channels and authorized representatives are empowered to speak on behalf of the church, urging members of the public and media organizations to verify information through official platforms before accepting or sharing such claims.

“Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts,” the statement said.

The church also cautioned bloggers, commentators, media outlets and content publishers against presenting unverified claims as factual reports.

“Accuracy is not optional. Responsible journalism requires verification,” it added.

Addressing some of the recurring allegations against its General Overseer, RCCG dismissed claims that Pastor Adeboye campaigned for any government or political party, insisting that he has consistently maintained political neutrality while encouraging Christians to participate in the democratic process.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has always encouraged members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God to get their PVCs and vote for anyone of their choice. He has always maintained a neutral stance on political parties as members of the Church are members of various political parties,” the church stated.

The church also rejected reports suggesting that Pastor Adeboye called off a planned protest, explaining that he merely communicated a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding adjustments to a three-day prayer programme.

According to RCCG, the revised arrangement involved moving the grand finale of the programme to a central venue and organizing a rally around the location, a decision conveyed by PFN to member churches across the country.

Furthermore, the church dismissed assertions that Pastor Adeboye has remained silent on national challenges, stressing that he has repeatedly spoken on issues affecting the country, including insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, governance and elections.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has, on several occasions, spoken about national issues such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance, and the need for righteous leadership. However, he often chooses the language of moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than partisan political confrontation,” the statement noted.

The church concluded by urging Nigerians to place greater value on facts and verified information rather than speculation, reiterating that official RCCG communication channels remain the most reliable source for information concerning Pastor Adeboye and the church.

“Truth matters,” the statement stressed, encouraging the public to seek clarification through RCCG’s authorized platforms whenever questions arise.
