In a remarkable gesture underscoring its unwavering commitment to educational excellence, the Lagos State Government has rewarded Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, the overall best graduating student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session, with a cash prize of ₦10 million.
Miss Nwosu, a first-class graduate of Biochemistry and an indigene of Aniocha in Delta State, received the prestigious award from the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, during a presentation ceremony at the Ministry’s office in Alausa, Ikeja.
Sule emphasized that the Sanwo-Olu administration is determined to foster a culture of academic merit, research innovation, and inclusive recognition across all state-owned tertiary institutions.
“This reward is a testament to the governor’s inclusive vision — to build a knowledge-driven society where excellence is recognised irrespective of background or origin,” the Commissioner stated. “Miss Nwosu’s success story reflects the academic potential we are nurturing in our institutions.”
Expressing her deep appreciation, Miss Nwosu, accompanied by her mother, thanked the Lagos State Government for the life-changing support. She pledged to invest the funds wisely towards furthering her academic journey.
“This recognition has inspired me to continue striving for excellence. Lagos truly embraces all who are willing to put in the work,” she said.
The award aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader educational development agenda aimed at motivating students, promoting scholarship, and strengthening the quality of higher education in the state.
The Governor’s initiative continues to position Lagos as a hub for talent development and academic distinction.
