The Lagos State Government has vowed to prosecute seven suspects arrested in connection with violent attacks on officials of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) during an enforcement operation in Ajah and Epe.
Confirming the incident, Dunkwu Divine, Head of Public Affairs at LASPA, said the arrests followed assaults on the agency’s personnel by staff and security operatives of Better Mart on Badore Road, Off Addo Road, Ajah, and Ashley Mall in Epe.
The suspects are currently in detention at the Badore Police Station, Lekki, pending the conclusion of investigations before being charged to court.
Dunkwu stressed that the State Government “strongly condemns the criminal act of attacking its officials on lawful duty” and warned that such offences attract severe penalties under Chapter 17, Section 117 of the Criminal Code, which prescribes up to three years’ imprisonment or a fine of ₦200,000.
He added that the LASPA team was conducting a routine compliance check on parking regulations when the attack occurred, resulting in injuries to some officials.
“Any further assault on LASPA or any government personnel will attract strict punishment for both perpetrators and property owners where such acts take place,” Dunkwu warned.
