Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser on Transportation to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has resigned his appointment.
His resignation signals his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Giwa announced his decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, stating that he stepped down after a period of “deep reflection and wide consultations.”
The development comes amid a wave of resignations by political appointees across the country seeking elective offices, in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
In his statement, Giwa expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity to serve in his administration, noting his contributions to transport reforms under the THEMES+ Agenda.
“It has been an honour to serve and contribute to the transformation of our transport system under the THEMES+ Agenda. I remain grateful to Mr. Governor for the trust and opportunity,” he said.
He also confirmed his intention to represent Lagos Island Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, stating that his decision was driven by a desire to deepen public service through legislative representation.
Giwa added that his focus would be on “stronger representation, purposeful legislation, and delivering real impact,” as he joins other aspirants positioning for the 2027 general elections.
Before his resignation, Sola Giwa served as the Special Adviser on Transportation to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, where he played a visible role in the implementation of traffic management and transport reform initiatives under the THEMES+ Agenda.
Prior to his appointment as Special Adviser, Giwa had functioned within the Lagos State transport ecosystem as a key political figure and mobiliser, particularly on Lagos Island, where he built a strong grassroots presence.
He was known for his involvement in stakeholder engagement across transport unions, community groups, and regulatory agencies, helping to drive compliance and public awareness on traffic and mobility policies.
Giwa was a member of Lagos House of Assembly between 2015 – 2019 representing Lagos Island Constituency II. He was Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) on Transportation in 2011.
Prior to these, he was Special Assistant to Governor on LASTMA working with Dr Kayode Opeifa in Ministry of Transportation in 2007.
His transition from an executive advisory role to seeking legislative office is seen as a continuation of his political trajectory within both the Lagos State Government and the APC structure.
