The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 52 suspects in a clean – up exercise aimed at enhancing public safety in Lekki, Ikoyi, and their environs.
The operation which was led by the Chairman of the agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, witnessed the combing of areas flagged through numerous complaints of street urchins, miscreants, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals. The areas include: Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.
According to a statement from the Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the raid started around 12:35 a.m. on Saturday and culminated in the arrest of 51 male and one female suspects.
Abdulraheem said “We will continue to sustain these enforcement exercises until every part of the city is free from criminal activities. Those who choose to engage in acts that threaten the serenity and security of residents should desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.”
“The exercise forms part of the ongoing strategy to conduct routine enforcement operations at least bi-weekly to gradually eliminate criminal activities, and safeguard law-abiding residents and businesses in the state. All suspects arrested during the operation will be charged to court.” He stated.
