President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday depart Abuja for a strategic two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic partnerships.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the trip will begin with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Yokohama, Japan, for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled from August 20 to 22.
Themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD9 will focus on Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and building resilient, sustainable societies.
President Tinubu is expected to participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage with CEOs of Japanese companies invested in Nigeria.
After TICAD9, the President will visit Brasilia, Brazil, on August 24–25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. His itinerary includes high-level bilateral talks, participation in a business forum, and the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Brazil, alongside key ministers.
Established in 1993, TICAD is co-hosted by Japan, the United Nations, the UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, serving as a platform for dialogue between African leaders and development partners.
