President Bola Tinubu on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a credible, secure, and verifiable national identity management system, describing it as essential to Nigeria’s developmental goals.
Speaking at the official launch of the NINAuth App, a mobile-based digital identity authentication platform developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), President Tinubu said the new application represents a milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
He noted that the innovation would simplify access to services, enhance security, and strengthen trust in governance by reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies and opportunities for corruption.
“The official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App heralds a remarkable day in our nation’s digital public infrastructure journey. This innovation marks another milestone in our collective pursuit of a digitally empowered Nigeria,” the President said.
“A credible and inclusive National Identity Management System supports financial inclusion, strengthens social welfare delivery, enhances security, and ensures accurate data for evidence-based planning.”
President Tinubu assured that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would soon adopt the NINAuth App for staff and data verification, adding that the initiative aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda, which leverages technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance.
He explained that the app would help position Nigeria among technologically advanced nations by enabling seamless, secure, and inclusive access to services while upholding data protection and national security standards.
“We are simplifying access, reducing bureaucratic interference, and closing the gaps where inefficiency and corruption thrive,” Tinubu stated.“Together, we are building a nation where every identity counts and every citizen matters.”
Earlier, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended the President for deploying technology to solve national challenges.“Your Excellency, you are solving tomorrow’s problem with technology. Every nation that desires to be efficient must first build systems that can identify, authenticate, and secure its citizens,” he said.
Also speaking, the Director-General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the NINAuth App would eliminate multiple data ownership, providing real-time authentication for individuals, businesses, and government agencies.
She disclosed that NIMC had enrolled 126.7 million Nigerians, with about 25 million captured in the last two years and an average of 1.3 million verification hits per day recorded on its platform.
Reacting to the development, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the new app demonstrates President Tinubu’s resolve to use technology to drive transparency and inclusiveness.
“The NINAuth App is a bold step toward a more accountable and efficient digital ecosystem. It reflects President Tinubu’s determination to modernize governance and ensure that every Nigerian has a trusted digital identity,” Onanuga said.
