President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, in a move that signals a fresh adjustment within the federal cabinet.
The nomination was formally conveyed to the Senate on Tuesday in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, seeking legislative confirmation.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a statement dated March 3, 2026.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite,” Onanuga stated.
He added that Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
“Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite will now serve as Minister of State in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning,” Onanuga said, noting that the reassignment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen key economic institutions.
Onanuga further confirmed that the President had transmitted Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation.
“President Tinubu has today conveyed the nomination of Mr Taiwo Oyedele to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the Senate President,” he said.
Until his nomination, Oyedele, a native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.
“Before this nomination, Mr Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which undertook significant reforms of the nation’s tax framework,” Onanuga noted.
Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert with over two decades of professional experience. He obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Onanuga highlighted Oyedele’s extensive private sector background, stating: “Mr Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, bringing a wealth of experience in tax advisory and fiscal strategy.”
In addition to his professional career, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
The nomination is expected to be considered by the Senate in the coming days, as the administration continues efforts to reposition the nation’s economic management framework.
