President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late cleric as an extraordinary spiritual guide whose life was devoted to teaching, preaching, and promoting peace.
“The President received the news of the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss,” Onanuga stated, quoting the President. He noted that the revered cleric’s death is “monumental not only to his family and teeming followers but also to the nation.”
President Tinubu fondly recalled the moral support and blessings he received from Sheikh Bauchi during the 2023 presidential campaign. “Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason. As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Quran, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” he said.
The President extended his condolences to the cleric’s followers across the country and beyond, urging them to honour his legacy by upholding his teachings on peaceful coexistence, deepening their relationship with God, and showing kindness to humanity.
