A tragic incident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge, outward Lagos, when a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 384 BE veered off the road and plunged into the Lagos Lagoon.
The driver, who was reportedly returning home from work, was later confirmed dead after divers recovered his body from the water before retrieving the submerged car.
Emergency responders, including operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Marine Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, and local divers, swiftly mobilized to the scene for the rescue operation.
Family members of the deceased, sensing something unusual, had traced his movement after he failed to arrive home as promised.
According to eyewitnesses, the man’s daughter became worried when her father’s journey of less than ten minutes took unusually long. Their search led them directly to the scene of the accident.
Eyewitnesses also confirmed that RRS operatives present on the bridge at the time of the accident quickly alerted other emergency agencies for reinforcement.
The atmosphere at the scene was one of deep sorrow as family members were left devastated by the sudden loss.
