Troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Kebbi State.
The operation, conducted by troops of Sector 2 on June 27 in the Sabarumawa axis of the state, followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected members of the Lakurawa group were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the route believed to be used by the suspected terrorists.
According to the military, the suspects ran into the ambush while advancing towards the community, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The troops overpowered the group, neutralising two of the suspected terrorists, while others fled into the surrounding forest.
A follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of a cache of arms and other operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.
The military said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance security across the North-West.
The Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the successful operation underscored the troops’ resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action in the region.
“The successful operation forms part of the ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance the security of communities across the North West,” Danja said in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and other criminal groups operating in the region.
“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens and sustaining offensive operations against all terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North West,” Danja said.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to facilitate ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The military said efforts were continuing to track down the fleeing suspects and sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating across the North-West.
