Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 22 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sokoto State, following intelligence-led interventions against terrorist activities in the area.
The military said the operations were launched in response to credible intelligence and distress calls, underscoring its commitment to protecting lives and property and creating a secure environment for residents to carry out their lawful activities without fear.
The Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt Co.l Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the first operation took place along the Sabon Birni–Shinkafi Road at Kura Mota Village, where terrorists reportedly attacked two commercial vehicles, killing one civilian and abducting several passengers.
“On receipt of the information, troops swiftly mobilised to the area and launched a coordinated pursuit operation with aerial support,” Danja said.
He explained that the sustained pressure mounted by the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee, resulting in the successful rescue of 17 kidnapped passengers.
In a related operation, troops responded to another terrorist attack at Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, where armed criminals attempted to abduct farmers working on their farmlands.
The troops immediately deployed to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route, leading to the rescue of five abducted farmers.
The rescued victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
Following the operations, troops conducted confidence-building patrols in neighbouring communities, including Gidan Rana and Gidan Sale villages, to reassure residents and strengthen security presence in the affected areas.
Danja said the military remained committed to denying terrorists freedom of action and sustaining efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace across communities in the North-West region.
“The military remains resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring lasting peace across communities in the North-West region,” he stated.
