A tanker driver and his assistant were severely burnt on Monday after their tanker reportedly suffered brake failure, rammed into a commuter bus and fell while descending Otedola Bridge towards Berger, Lagos.
According to an eyewitness, the tanker lost control while descending the bridge before crashing into the bus and overturning, spilling its contents onto the road.
The source said personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire, adding that the incident disrupted traffic on the highway until the fire was put out.
The driver and his assistant, who sustained severe burns, were reportedly taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre at the old toll gate for treatment.
A section of the bridge was also damaged by the fire.
The eyewitness added that the bridge had since been reopened to traffic.
