Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has declared that the administration’s delivery of key infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda renders electoral manipulation unnecessary, asserting that the government’s achievements are evident and persuasive to the electorate
.Wike made the statement on Tuesday during the commissioning of the 16-kilometre Idu-Zuba Road—a long-awaited dual carriageway project revived and completed under his leadership.
“There is no need to rig elections; our completed projects speak for us,” Wike said, addressing the upcoming Area Council elections. “Those planning to contest should ask themselves what they’ll tell the people. Let no one waste money—the results are already known by what we’ve done.
”Originally awarded in 2014 at ₦7 billion, the Idu-Zuba project faced years of delays and inflationary adjustments, eventually reaching a final cost of ₦31 billion.
Wike credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the political will and financial support that ensured its completion.“When we assumed office in August 2023, I visited this site and asked: how could a project like this be awarded without plans for completion? But with Mr. President’s support, we delivered it,” Wike said.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the Idu industrial corridor, pointing to over 40,000 direct jobs expected from upcoming developments in the area.
Previously hindered by the absence of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-Os), the administration’s expedited issuance process—within two weeks—has unlocked access for investors and manufacturers.
“Investors don’t build roads; that’s our job. If we want them to come, we must provide the infrastructure,” Wike added.
He acknowledged logistical delays stemming from the need for federal approvals to cross the railway corridor but noted that a private firm has already applied to complete the remaining segment, with discussions ongoing regarding tax relief through the Ministry of Finance.
In typical style, the Minister infused humour to highlight the role of presidential backing in the administration’s performance:> “Monkey dey jump because tree near tree. If monkey jump and no tree, him leg go break.”
He concluded by urging continued collaboration with the presidency to sustain the pace of development in the FCT.
The commissioning of the Idu-Zuba Road is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure, boost investor confidence, and position the FCT as a model for national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
