A tense standoff occurred in Abuja on Tuesday when the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, clashed with a group of soldiers over a disputed parcel of land.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the altercation reportedly began after soldiers allegedly attempted to take possession of a piece of land within the FCT, prompting objections from officials of the FCT Administration (FCTA).
The situation intensified when Minister Wike personally intervened, directing that the soldiers be stopped from taking over the land.
Although full details of the incident are still emerging, sources familiar with the matter said the disagreement stemmed from ownership and allocation issues involving the disputed property.
In the video, Wike was heard confronting one of the soldiers, who claimed they were “acting on orders.” The minister retorted, “Shut up,” and accused the soldier of being an “idiot.” The soldier, however, calmly replied, “I’m not an idiot, sir,” several times.
At another point, Wike remarked, “You would have killed everybody here,” to which the soldier responded, “We won’t kill anybody.”
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with Nigerians expressing varied reactions to the minister’s exchange with the soldiers and calling for clarification on the land’s true ownership.
