Yet-to-be-identified hoodlums have vandalised and looted the Federal Government’s 80-bed Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Pakiotan, Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving the multi-million-naira facility in a state of disrepair.
The Onipakiotan of Pakiotan, Oba James Ojo, disclosed the incident on Wednesday while conducting newsmen round the ravaged hospital.
The project, facilitated by former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, was completed and inaugurated on May 27, 2023, before being handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health through the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Expressing dismay over the destruction, the monarch noted that cables had been vandalised even before the hospital’s inauguration but were replaced at the time.
He revealed that the latest attack saw the removal of all electrical cables, 150 solar batteries, ceiling fans, and other valuable equipment.
He urged the ministry to either commence operations immediately or hand the facility over to the community for effective management, stressing that the neglect and lack of security created the avenue for the vandalism.
