Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday stormed two private schools in Ikeja after anonymous WhatsApp messages raised fears of a possible security threat, prompting an immediate deployment of explosive experts and tactical units.
The Command said the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the affected schools independently reported at the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received distress messages from the same unknown number.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, promptly mobilised and personally led a team of operatives to the school premises for on-the-spot assessment and security reinforcement.
According to her, the team comprised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other specialised tactical units of the Command.
“A painstaking and comprehensive sweep of the entire school environment, including classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds and surrounding premises, was conducted by the EOD-CBRN experts to rule out the presence of any Improvised Explosive Devices or other suspicious materials,” Abimbola stated.
She said the operation yielded no explosive or hazardous device, adding that the schools were subsequently declared safe for continued academic and administrative activities.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensified investigation to trace, identify and apprehend the sender or senders of the threatening messages, with a view to bringing them to justice in accordance with the law.
She further noted that combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed on a permanent basis to the affected schools to guarantee round-the-clock safety of students, staff and school facilities.
Abimbola reassured parents, guardians, school authorities and members of the public that the Lagos State Police Command remains proactive, responsive and fully committed to the protection of lives and property across the state.
