Alia Orders Reinforcement of Security in Katsina-Ala After Deadly Attack

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Sai Community in Mbajir Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area following a deadly attack by suspected armed assailants that reportedly left several people dead and others injured.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.

According to the statement, Governor Alia condemned the attack, describing the killings as unacceptable and a setback to ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in parts of the state affected by recurring violence.

He noted that the incident came at a time when many displaced residents had begun returning to their ancestral communities to resume farming activities, expressing concern that renewed attacks could undermine agricultural production and threaten livelihoods.

The governor conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

He also directed security agencies to strengthen surveillance in the affected area, prevent further attacks and intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible.

“The security agencies must ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are identified, arrested and brought to justice, while taking proactive measures to prevent further incursions into the community,” the statement said.

Governor Alia urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.

Benue State has witnessed repeated attacks in several communities over the years, particularly in rural areas, with many incidents linked to the protracted farmers-herders conflict and the activities of armed groups. The violence has resulted in significant loss of lives, displacement of residents and destruction of farmlands, prompting repeated calls for stronger security measures and lasting solutions to the crisis.

The latest attack comes as authorities continue efforts to improve security across the state and encourage displaced communities to return to their homes and farms.
