A domestic dispute that allegedly began over a meal has ended in tragedy in Nasarawa State, where a 20-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, leaving their two young children without a mother.
The Nasarawa State Police Command, in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, said it had arrested the deceased’s husband, 30-year-old Musbawu Amodu, over the alleged culpable homicide of his wife at Angwan Yahaya in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, the couple had been married for six years and had two children – a boy and a girl.
Nansel said the incident was reported at the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with allegations that the suspect had assaulted his wife, resulting in her death.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilized patrol personnel to the scene, where the victim was evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, for medical examination and preservation,” Nansel said.
He added that the suspect was promptly arrested and allegedly confessed during interrogation.
According to the police, the suspect claimed he acted in anger after his wife allegedly refused to prepare food, leading to an argument that escalated into a physical assault.
“He stated that he acted out of anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food. According to him, an argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death. He has since expressed remorse over his actions,” the statement added.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, Shetima Mohammed, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for a thorough investigation.
The commissioner assured members of the public that justice would be served and that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Mohammed condemned the incident, describing it as tragic and avoidable, and reiterated the command’s stance against domestic violence.
“He strongly condemned all forms of domestic violence, describing the incident as tragic and avoidable. He urged couples and family members to embrace dialogue, patience, and lawful means of resolving disputes, stressing that no misunderstanding is worth the loss of a human life,” the police spokesperson said.
The command further reassured residents that the situation in Agyaragu and its environs remains calm and under control, adding that monitoring of the area is ongoing while investigations continue.
