A Federal High Court in Katsina has convicted two men for terrorism-related offences arising from an arms trafficking operation, sentencing each of them to five years’ imprisonment on one count and 20 years’ imprisonment on each of the remaining four counts after finding them guilty on all charges.
The conviction followed the prosecution of Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman, who were arrested by operatives of the Katsina State Police Command during an operation along the Ingawa–Karkarku Road in September 2025.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu.
According to Iniedu, the suspects were intercepted while transporting a cache of prohibited firearms and ammunition allegedly intended for criminal elements.
Recovered during the operation were one PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of PKT ammunition, 1,663 rounds of 7.62mm × 39mm AK-47 ammunition, as well as the vehicle used to convey the exhibits.
Following investigations, the suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court, Katsina Judicial Division, in Charge No. FHC/KT/84C/2025 on a five-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession and transportation of prohibited firearms and ammunition, rendering support to terrorists, and acts preparatory to terrorism, contrary to the provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act.
Iniedu said the prosecution presented witnesses and tendered documentary and material exhibits during the trial, leading the court to find both defendants guilty on all five counts.
The court, he added, sentenced each convict to five years’ imprisonment on Count One and 20 years’ imprisonment on each of Counts Two to Five.
Commenting on the judgment, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the investigators and prosecution team for what he described as their professionalism and dedication throughout the investigation and trial.
“The Inspector-General of Police commends the professionalism of the investigators and prosecution team whose diligent efforts culminated in the successful conviction,” Iniedu said.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combating terrorism and curbing the proliferation of illegal arms across the country.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to combating terrorism, disrupting the illicit proliferation of arms, and ensuring that all persons involved in acts threatening Nigeria’s national security are brought to justice,” Iniedu quoted the IGP as saying.
