The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment, announced on Friday, places the experienced officer at the helm of the Force Public Relations Department, the unit responsible for managing the image of the Nigeria Police Force and serving as its primary communication bridge with the public and the media.
According to a statement released by DCP Anthony Placid, CSP Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and led initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and public confidence in policing.
The outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, Placid stated that Inspector-General expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to strengthen the Force’s communication strategy and deepen public engagement.
“The Inspector-General of Police has expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s capacity to lead the Force Public Relations Department, noting that his experience and professional background will further enhance the Force’s strategic communication efforts and strengthen public engagement in support of ongoing policing reforms and operational successes,” Placid said.
A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has attended several professional courses in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication and human rights-based policing.
Over the course of his career, he has served in various operational, administrative and intelligence roles across the country.
His previous appointments include Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.
As head of the Situation Room, he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide, a role that exposed him to the operational and strategic dimensions of policing across the federation.
Before taking charge of the Complaint Response Unit, Iniedu also served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, where he gained experience in institutional communication and stakeholder engagement.
His appointment comes at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is seeking to strengthen public trust, improve transparency and enhance communication with citizens amid ongoing reforms and security challenges across the country.
